“Check out that book, like, yeah”

12 07 2011

This inspirational library video helps all of us to recognize that you don’t need to have a Julliard-trained voice in order to make an awesome library music video. You’ve got some strong library feelings? Belt them out!

Paying homage to the Miley Cyrus ditty “Party in the USA,” we learn that you can also party in the library. Of course, we librarians know that every day is a party in the library!

It’s nominated in two categories: Best Musical and Best Spoof.

Libraries Will Survive

22 09 2010

Awesomer or awkwarder than the gang from the University of Washington Information School?  They are in for some stiff competition from this creative bunch at Central Rappahannock Regional Library in Virginia, who responded to recent budget cuts for libraries with this rendition of Gloria Gaynor’s disco hit, “I Will Survive.”  Nominated for Best Musical, this video serves as a reminder to our patrons that libraries are still there to serve them, even in these trying times!

And as if you needed additional reasons to visit your local library, apparently libraries now come with shirtless men on the loading dock!

Awesome or Awkward?

3 06 2010

The debate is raging in libraries everywhere:

Is the Lady Gaga tribute created by the students and faculty of the University of Washington’s Information School the most awesome library video of all time? Or it is the most awkward library video of all time?

All we know is that we’d love to use the Information School’s  c-c-c-c-catalog.

It’s nominated for Best Musical.

Never gonna give…

11 01 2010

We were sure we were getting Rickrolled when we got this submission.

The library staff at Montana State University Billings have imagined the Rick Astley hit “Never Gonna Give you Up”  into a moving anthem for their library. Complete with costumes, choreography, and stirring lyrics, this LibVid is nominated for Best Musical.

A Library Crooner

11 12 2009

The smooth voice of library crooner Michael London from Seneca College’s Markham Campus Library in Canada will surely get you in the mood to….uhh….. check out books from your local library!  Mike’s finger-snapping smooth moves and his silky praise of libraries will get you singing along to the catchy “S-E-N-E-C-A L-I-B-R-aries” in no time.  With nearly 30,000 views, this video has already proven to be a hit on  YouTube, and so it is in the running for Best Musical.

Mary Tyler Librarian

4 12 2009

Coming to us from our friends out in Suffolk County, NY and nominated for Best Acting – Librarian, Best Musical and Best Public Library Video is this twirl down memory lane.  Taking it’s inspiration from the opening sequence of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, the librarians at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library remind viewers, and hopefully voters, that librarians provide crucial services to community members.

The soundtrack is a little muddy but the smile on “Mary’s” face is real.  I’m glad they made it after all.

You’ll have this song in you head for days: The University of Pennsylvania’s Weigle music video

17 11 2009

We all know those Ivy League kids love to sing and in this landmark video, nominated for Best Musical, three UPenn students sing their hearts out about the Weigle Information Commons to the tune of “Downtown”.  Too earnest to quite fit into the Best Comedy category, this performance will have you dreaming about group projects and late night cram sessions.
